Book Club - Fall Pick 2016

Since we were online last night and looking for our next book in a hurry, we picked one last night.

We will put up a poll in October to choose the a winter book. Smile

October 22nd will be the "due date" to read Etiquette & Espionage, by Gail Carriger. We'll try to meet up that weekend.

It is a bit more on the feminine side, with a twist. Note the scissors...

If you want an alternate read, most of us have read (and some are reading) the Emperor's Edge series by Lindsay Buroker. The first 3 books are .99 for the set and are a quick, fun, Indiana Jones/Lara Croft sort of read with great characters.

Did anyone read and get through this? I started, then life stuff happened, and my ability to read fiction went RIGHT out the window.

Since lining up an online meeting is going to be a little difficult for a bit (may be around this weekend, though!), do we want to discuss it here? If so, let's get the ball rolling and I will catch up and read as fast as I can. Smile

I read it a long time ago. I can re-read, though

1/4 the way in - I know, it's going slow - but I'm getting a bit here on a break, a bit there between walking in the door and faceplanting into bed. It's not moving fast.

That said...
I forgot that this is a young adult book and it's written about a 14 year old. Her Soulless series is a bit more adult, this is a bit more cute - but I'm liking the steampunk and there have been a couple cute/funny scenes. And of course, I'm wanting to know what that one woman's deal is...

So I finished it - I thought it had some clever moments and was fun, light reading. Pick me up stuff when you don't want something dark or too real.

It gets praised for genre-blending. I saw steampunk there, but am not quite sure what other genres they dipped into... it's not quite romance.

I liked that they touched on racism and class divides a bit in her friendship/budding romance with Soap.
